This post got me thinking. What's the weirdest thing I've ever eaten?
I like Vegemite, which most people consider to be vile brown goo. But for the most part, to my knowledge, I've never eaten anything really out of the ordinary.

So.. what's the most bizarre thing you've eaten?

Mangoes. Those things come from so far away!

(My definition of exotic here is unusual to this locality)

i had eaten gator. alligator.

honestly, it really did taste like chewey, gamey chicken.

though, that may have been because of how the gator meat was battered and deep fried ...

Elephant. I was in Amsterdam, and I couldn't help but think "You know, I will never ever get a chance like this again." So I paid $30 and had about 2 oz of pachyderm. It was gross, and it was probably just from some elephant that died in a zoo, but hey, at least I can say I did it.

Nothing too crazy here, just some alligator. Restleschicken is right about the flavor.

Edit because Kakana jogged my memory, I have also eaten frog legs. The taste wasn't bad, but they had so many veins that kind of grossed me out.

Abalone is yummers--they must not have prepared it right.

I worked at the Game and Fish and every year, we had a Wild Game Feed. Moose, elk, antelope, etc were standards. But snapping turtle, snake, mountain lion, and bear were less common and had to be tasted. :D

I'm willing to taste most anything once.

I think I had abalone... I can't remember if I liked that or something else.

And I had conch chowder in the Bahamas. Which was adventurous for me; I'm not much of a brave eater.

*edited* Oh yes, maven, I had a bison burger (farm bison). Was... better than beef. I hope to try a beefalo sometime (it's 5/6 cow, 1/6 buffalo).

Oh, and ostrich, but that's not really exotic anymore, same for bison.

I think it was the texture that got to me more than the taste.

I've had ostrich, buffalo, goat, frog, squirrel, and a few others but I don't really consider those "exotic".

Urchin.

Sea urchin, not street urchin.

I had it at a sushi restaurant in San Francisco. Ickiest food ever. I can't remember it being very flavorful, what sticks out in my memory most is that it had the consistency of a giant booger- soft and squishy with a little bit of body. Bleh.

I had some shark, humm, some ten or thirteen years ago. It was grilled (in the backyard) and lightly seasoned. I remember it as being meaty, good tasting fish.

I suppose the species of shark might have some relevance to flavor. But most likely what you had was just old. That's what makes fish taste fishy.
