The holy passion of Friendship is of so sweet and steady and loyal and enduring a nature that it will last through a whole lifetime, if not asked to lend money. -- Mark Twain

If we listened to our intellect, we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd never go into business, because we'd be cynical. Well, that's nonsense. You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down. -- Ray Bradbury
«ThirDeye : If we listened to our intellect, we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd never go into business, because we'd be cynical. Well, that's nonsense. You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down. -- Ray Bradbury
But of course that's Ray Bradbury saying that. He would say such things. Of course, in his version of the world, the intellect is an unalloyed evil, a sinister machine.
I don't like Bradbury much, never enjoyed his books.
I'm wondering where this thread is coming from but to me a friend is someone who makes me smile when I don't feel like smiling and who smiles at me when they themselves don't have anything to smile about. We share so much even though we have little in common and we just fit together.
I miss my friends when they are away and they miss me.
Friends make life bearable and they are also someone to bounce things off before making an arse of yourself in public.
The online aspect of friendship makes no difference, a friend is a friend right to the end as Mr Mercury once said.
I have hundreds of acquaintances but only a one or two friends.
A friend is one who I enjoy being with and who enjoys being with me, that by our presence or even simple communication, it lightens the day just enough.
A friend is someone who you can share your troubles with and they'll be there to support you, and not judge.
A friend is someone who will not turn their back to you if it may somehow be profitable to them. They will stand by your side even at the expense of their own self.
A friend will support you in the bad times and rejoice with you in the good times.
A friend will take you into her confidence and keep your secrets as well.
A friend will acknowledge when you are in the right and call you out when you are in the wrong.
A friend will be patient and caring when you are pissed, knowing when to comfort you and when to back the hell off, and she won't take offense at the latter.
A friend will never keep you waiting without asking your forgiveness and will be patient and forgiving when you are late yourself.
A friend will never make you pay for her help.
A friend will never ignore you to save her reputation.
A friend will never make you feel like you don't belong.
