TV gameshow looks to convert atheists Posted: 5 months ago by 2manyusernames
What happens when you put a Muslim imam, a Christian priest, a rabbi and a Buddhist monk in a room with 10 atheists?
Turkish television hopes the answer is a ratings success as it prepares to launch a gameshow which seeks to convert a group of non-believers.

"We don't approve of anyone being an atheist. God is great and it doesn't matter which religion you believe in. The important thing is to believe," Soylu said.
If they go about it with that sort of attitude, they won't get too many converts; they would be insulting their customers.

Also, Buddhism does not have a god, local varieties of Buddhism have their own gods, but Buddhism is basically an agnostic religion.

Some 200 people have so far applied to take part in the show and the 10 contestants will be chosen next month.

A team of theologians will ensure that the atheists are truly non-believers and are not just seeking fame or a free holiday.
How will they do that? It looks like the incentives are really stacked in favor of one side.

How will they prove the contestants really believe? Ask? I'd be happy to say 'I believe' for a free trip to Rome.

The prize for converts will be a pilgrimage to a holy site of their chosen religion -- Mecca for Muslims, the Vatican for Christians, Jerusalem for Jews and Tibet for Buddhists.
Maybe it's not the case in Turkey, but I know many, many Christians who would be outright offended by a free trip to the Vatican.

What happens if the atheists convert one of the officials? That'd be amusing.

What a crock of s**te. It's along the same patronising lines as a gameshow turning gay people straight.

If this was being done as a neutral exercise then all well and good but when the makers state that they don't approve of Atheism to begin with you wonder how quickly this will turn into a propaganda tool for various religions.

I wonder how many genuine non-believers they'll have on there? My bet is they'll pick people already sat on the fence and wishy washy about what they believe.

Genuine non-believers will not be converted to a religion, as well genuine believers will not be converted to atheism. Or else they are not genuine.

I wanna pitch a show called "insecure" where a flailing institution attempts to appeal to its loyal followers by converting actors.

AArgh I'm always so slow with getting my ideas copywrited.
