actually, during the WWII a lot of ukrainians, russians, belorussians joined the nazi forces when they arrived because they hated Stalin's regime and thought the german side was better. imagine what they got after the nazis were wiped out of the Soviet Union...

In Ukraine there were a stiff Nazi/nationalist resistance for years after the world war ended.
As for joining the Germans, almost each country did his share, there were Waffen SS divisions set up in the German occupied areas from the volunteers of those countries
